April 20, 2012 Yes that is the day that Calder was born. I would say that it was the most amazing day, but I will be completely honest and say it was the most amazing night. The eleven hours that it took for him to come was not amazing, but it was worth it! Jonathan and I were so excited, nervous and just ready! We checked in the hospital at 7:00 am. We signed papers, I changed into a hospital gown and we were getting ready. I took a small pill. My nurse was Jill Wilding, a friend’s mom from Sugar City. At first it was awkward, but in the end I was so glad she was my nurse she made me feel really comfortable. After I took the pill, Dr. Prince showed up soon after. He checked to see how far along I was and decided to break my water. That was interesting! I had water coming out of me for a while! It just kept coming! Then an hour went by. Jill kept coming in and checking me. I was progressing fast. Before I knew it, I was dilated to a five. The contractions were getting intense. I seriously have NO desire to have a baby naturally. I was ready for that epidural. The doctor that did the epidurals took forever to get into my room! I was gripping Jonathan’s hand so hard. I was so grateful to have him there. He really did help me so much. I just stared at him and he just kept me calm and reassured me that I could do it. The epidural was a little difficult to get in. He kept telling me to sit a certain way and I swear I was doing it, but he kept telling me I was doing it wrong, and then I would get a contraction and tense up. It was a crazy moment. I was glad when it was over. The drugs worked though! And to my surprise very fast! I then was able to relax a lot. I even took a nap! The next several hours trickled on. Jill kept coming in and checking me to see how far along I was getting. It was a slow process. Then she said I was dilated to a ten and totally effaced. She wanted me to do some pushing and then call the doctor. I was excited, but I wanted her to call the doctor right then, but I guess she needed to see how my pushing went. Well I pushed for a LONG time! There was so much pressure down there, and I felt I would push so hard every time, but Calder was not coming out on his own. Dr. Prince showed up, and I could tell he was a little concerned. He kept asking me how tired I was and if I was able to do this. I kept telling him I could do it, but eventually he had to get a vacuum tool to help get Calder out because he was not coming on his own. Those two hours plus of pushing were SO hard. I kept looking at Jonathan, and I saw him say multiple prayers while he was holding my leg. I was so worried about Calder and wanted to make sure his heart rate was ok. They kept reassuring me he was fine, so I kept pushing. Finally he was out! They put him on my chest, and Jonathan and I cried a little. It was so amazing. I was so relieved, but so thrilled and excited. He was so handsome with tons of dark hair. He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 20 inches long. And he was all mine! The hospital experience was interesting, but good. We had some nurses that were interesting, but for the most part it was just me, Jonathan and Calder in the room. I tore to the third degree so I was in some pain, but I loved holding my little baby. He had a hard time latching on to breast feed, so I was stressed and scared. I am always stressed when it comes to me doing the right things for Calder. I really want to do the best job ever! We brought Calder home two days later. I was scared to bring him home. That first night I did not sleep a wink. I was too worried about Calder. We found out that Calder had Jaundice and he would have to go to the doctor everyday and get blood drawn to check his levels. He was circumcised as well. Poor little guy! I cried one time at the doctor’s office because I could not help it. I hate watching him cry, even though Calder was extremely tough and hardly cried at all. Well he was on a biliblanket for days because his Jaundice was so bad, but eventually he got better without having to go to the hospital thankfully. He is extremely spoiled. I hold him all the time. I need to start training him to sleep in his crib and not my arms! We will get there though! It has been a crazy few weeks, but we are doing so much better! I love this little baby so much, and I love Jonathan too. We have such a sweet family and are incredibly blessed! I hope that I may do the best I can, and that my Heavenly Father will continue to give me revelation to raise this little boy!

Watch out this is LONG!

This is super long, but if you love us you will read it because let’s be honest, it’s not like I have written on this thing lately!

This year has been a crazy one! Jonathan and I found out that we were pregnant in August, and we are expecting a little boy April 28th. But let’s rewind a little…

Last summer we both worked A LOT to save up for Jonathan’s internship in Seattle where he would not be getting paid. He worked full time washing windows for a company all over Eastern Idaho, and I continued working in Island Park. We managed to save a lot so that we could afford to live in Seattle and not be too stressed. The summer seemed to be really difficult though.

I would be gone six days of the week. Jonathan would leave at seven in the morning or earlier. I would wake up, make his lunch and help him get out the door. It was a hard time. We never saw each other. It kind of has been a theme in our marriage. We have been really busy and never able to do stuff with other couples very often. I was always gone at work. Jon’s friends would always joke with me when they would see me and say, “Celeste your alive!” I would laugh, but it was sad for me that I was never able to have a lot of fun, but I should not complain because we have been able to stay out of debt and not stress about money, which is a real blessing.

Seattle was a whole different picture though. I stayed behind a month while Jon went to Seattle. I just found out I was pregnant, and I was SICK. It was the longest month of my life without Jonathan. I was miserable. When I arrived to Seattle, and saw him when I got off the plane it was one of the most exciting moments of my marriage! I was SO excited to see him. I needed him to take care of me so bad. He was the only one that knew I was pregnant, and I needed him to help me.

The next three months in Seattle were crazy. I threw up everyday. I did not work and just stayed in bed for hours, and if you know me that was really hard for me. Jon would get home around three everyday and we would go and find something to eat. We ate out everyday! It was so not like us, but there was no way I was going to cook. Jonathan ate so much Pho at the local Vietnamese restaurant that the owner really liked him and talked to him all the time. We went to numerous restaurants all over the Seattle area. It was seriously what we did everyday, except for Sundays. Sundays a really cute older couple had us for dinner all the time. The Pickets were so good to us. They really treated us great.

Whenever we move it takes me a lot longer than Jonathan to make friends. It seems like he gets to know everyone in the first week. When I arrived in Seattle when Jon had been there for only a month, the first Sunday a friend shared his testimony and said how Jonathan had blessed him and his home and has changed him for the better. Jonathan is always doing that no matter where he goes. He seriously has an amazing gift. I just go along for the ride!

Well I finally stopped throwing up the last week before we left Seattle. We were excited to get back to Idaho where we could sleep on a real bed instead of an air mattress and we could start working again because our money had run very dry.

Now Christmas has come and gone. We are back working A LOT. It is going to be a crazy few months getting ready for a little boy, but this time work doesn’t seem to bother me quite as much because I am looking forward to having this boy and I know I don’t have to be doing this for much longer.

I am getting huge! At least I think so… but if you ask my mom or sister Sarah I have always had a tummy! I am starting to like being pregnant, and I love feeling him move inside of me. Even though I am always a nervous wreck about eating right, exercising and reading too many things about labor, my excitement still out weighs it.

I hope you all have had a great year, and make this year even better! We are so excited and can’t wait to meet our son! Happy New Year!

Jon's Background

Jonathan is from Boston, Massachusetts. His father, mother and brother came from the Dominican Republic to the United States before Jonathan was born. When he was young his parents divorced after many times separating. Jonathan's father now lives in the Dominican Republic. Jonathan's amazing mother raised her two sons on her own.
When Jonathan was eight years old, he and his brother and mother were baptized in the LDS church. Very soon after, they stopped going to church.
Jonathan was a rascal when he was young. He has told me many stories about how tough he thought he was. After going to Boston and having him show me where he has lived, I realized that he had to be tough.
When he was 14 years old, Jonathan was invited to a Stake church dance. When he decided to go, he realized that the church and the surroundings were really familiar. They found out that he had been baptized. Jonathan kept going to church after that, and he has never stopped.
He has been a great example to everyone around him. Many boys from Boston came and was active in church because of Jonathan. They all looked up to him. He was the greatest example to them. He was his high school's quarterback and was great at basketball. He was even his Senior Prom King. Everyone loved Jonathan. He was simply a good kid and everyone knew it.
He was also a great example to his family. He is constantly talking to his mom and brother about the church and always prays for them. (If you look up CHAIN REACTION in the New Era, it is all about Jonathan's story)
Jonathan came to BYU-Idaho which is no small thing. It was amazing that he left that place in Boston and went to college. He was the first from his stake to come here. Now there are so many from his stake that are attending BYU-Idaho. Jonathan lead the way.
There have been numerous people tell me about how amazing Jonathan is. I always feel assured that I really got a great catch!
Jonathan served his mission in Brazil and many of the youth in Boston followed him and served a mission as well.
It was just the other day we were coming home from a movie that Jonathan got a call from an old friend in Boston that recently came back to church and got really serious on the phone and thanked Jonathan for always being a great example to him. He told him that if it was not for Jonathan he would be lost.
Jonathan has proved to be an amazing example and an amazing husband. I am so blessed. I know that Jonathan could not be a better man for me.

This is long... so you might want to skim:)

Once upon a time is usually how stories start. There is something magical about starting a story with “Once upon a time.” It is how all the princesses start their fairy tale, and it is how I start my fairy tale.
Once upon a time . . . I was a senior at Brigham Young University Idaho. It was September and the fall semester had just begun. I lived in Tuscany, a housing complex that was close to campus. I was excited for a fresh, new semester. I had a history of dating a lot of random boys and I really wanted to find someone that really loved me. I was hoping to find a boy that really treated me like a princess, but in my heart I thought I would not find this boy in Rexburg. I had felt like I met almost everyone and that I needed to graduate and find someone not in Rexburg. To say it simply, I was wrong.
The very first day of the semester I was walking into the library. It was such a beautiful day. Everyone was lying out on the grass, walking around and everyone looked top notch because it was the first day of school so naturally you look the best you can. Anyway, I was walking up to the library and there was a Dominican boy who I knew from the winter semester before and a couple of his friends right by the entryway. Jonathan was not really a good friend of mine. I just knew him because of basketball… ok lets rewind to winter semester quickly.
Last winter semester I volunteered to be a boys’ basketball coach. I was dating a boy from Rexburg at the time, and when I was at tryouts that boy pointed to Jonathan and said if you wanted the best basketball player at BYU-I then that is the kid. I just laughed and said ok and made a note of it. After tryouts we did not draft Jonathan in time, but I did not thing twice about it. We had a good team, and I was excited.
I also played that semester on a team that was awesome. We were so good. I got to know the girls on my team very well and we became good friends. A girl on my team was very good friends with Jonathan. He would come to our practices and games, and then later in the semester he started dating that girl. We got to know each other, not well, but we became friends. Then when the summer began, Jonathan moved to California to work. He and his girlfriend broke up. I would ask her throughout the summer occasionally what he was doing and if they still talked. She would tell me that they were no longer dating but they still talked a lot. That was really all the contact I had with Jonathan. Now lets get back to the original story.
I saw Jonathan at the steps of the library. I walked up and he popped up. He came over to me and gave me a huge hug. He acted like we were best friend or something. Then he hit on me. He told me, “You are looking GOOD.” I laughed so hard, then I just said bye and went into the library.
Then facebook begins. What would we do without the Internet? I think it was actually me that sent him a friend request on facebook, but then it was Jonathan that wrote me right away.
Then the day after he got my phone number he sent me a text, came over to my apartment, and the dating began.
Yes we did kiss on the first date. I don’t think there was any chance of stopping him. He was determined what he wanted and he went for it.
I think I saw Jonathan everyday after that day. We started dating. Three weeks later, I brought Jonathan up to Island Park where I work and he invited a couple friends. He came up to me and told me there was something he would like to talk to me about. He was so nervous. I had no idea what was going on.
He took me where we could be alone and sat me down. He then asked me if I would be his girlfriend. In my head I wanted to say, “Are you kidding? I thought we had been boyfriend and girlfriend this whole time?” I was laughing inside watching him squirm and stir. I told him I would be his girlfriend. He was glowing rest of the night. I started to love Jonathan, but I would not admit it because I get scared.
Well fall flew by quickly. Halloween was a great time, we went to a scary house where Jonathan left me and would not let me grip on him the whole time. He kept trying to scare me. The best part is when all of us were shocked by the electric fence that we didn’t see. Oh that was a fun time. Jonathan loves to tease me. I think that I will be tickled everyday for the rest of my life.
It was Halloween time that we said the “L” word. I thought that Jonathan would wait a little longer before he told me, but one night when he was dropping me off in the car he just popped it out. I had strong butterflies in my stomach. I was too scared to say it back. Then just two days later, we went to Idaho Falls to get Jonathan a costume. When we arrived to the store, before we got out of the car I told him that I had to tell him something. Then I just said it. He was SO SO happy! Needless to say we had a great night. Halloween was so much fun!
Then Thanksgiving rolled around. Jonathan was going home to Boston and he wanted me to go. I had a trip to Arizona planned to visit a good friend of mine so I didn’t know how I was going to do both, but I did. But I shouldn’t have. The trip to Arizona included an ex boyfriend on the trip, and I should have realized that Jonathan did not want me to go. I only went to Boston for two short days, and I should have stayed longer. Looking back now I wish I could have changed that, but what’s done is done, and as Jonathan always says, “Just move on and be better.”
After Thanksgiving, it was love love love! We did everything together. He knew my class schedule and where I would be at anytime of the day. He would drive me everywhere. I had a boy that really loved me!!
Jonathan spent Christmas with my family and me. He was welcomed into my family fast. My little brother Kimball loved him right away. Jonathan felt comfortable at my house. It was a great holiday.
Then January started. I moved home to my family’s house. I never ever lived at home before. I always lived in an apartment, but I knew that marriage was coming up soon and that we needed to save money. So I moved home.
All of January we had been discussing marriage. It was an exciting time, but stressful. I knew that I needed to work as much as possible to make plenty of money to pay for a wedding and to start a life together. I worked sixty-hour weeks and I still had two classes. It was a crazy time. Then we got engaged!!!!
I love Jonathan so much. He is an amazing guy! He has the strongest testimony that I have ever known. He is always keeping me laughing and I get tickled everyday.... it is torture! One day I will post Jonathan's story about his life growing up in Boston. He has come a long way to be where he is at now. I am so grateful he made it to BYU-I so I could find my prince!

So I am blogging... everyone is doing it so here I go to jump on the bandwagon:) Here are some pictures of the wedding and engagement. Both days were raining really hard, so I am lucky we have a few good pictures! Enjoy!

Right now Jonathan and I live in Salt Lake City. He is doing an internship with Deseret Digital Media, and he loves it. At the beginning of September we will be returning to Rexburg for Jonathan to finish school at BYU-I. Marriage life is great. We have so much fun together!
